Audi e-tron GE — Every OEM Activation You Can Unlock

US and Canadian e-tron GE vehicles ship with Matrix LED hardware physically installed but software-restricted. The hardware is already inside the headlight; only the software gate is closed. The same activation applies to the 2024 model year, now badged Q8 e-tron.

The method depends on your exact headlight hardware and model year:

• PR-code 8G4 (Matrix LED), 2018–2023: directly through the RetroLab Pro app. €200.
• PR-code 8G4 (Matrix LED), 2024 (Q8 e-tron): guided remote session on a Windows PC + ENet cable. €300 (+€100 surcharge).
• PR-code 8G5 (Digital Matrix Headlights), 2018–2024: guided remote session on a Windows PC + ENet cable. €300.
• No PR-code 8G4 or 8G5, 2018–2023: guided remote session on a Windows PC + ENet cable. €300.
• No PR-code 8G4 or 8G5, 2024 (Q8 e-tron): not supported.

Applies to e-tron GE (SUV), e-tron Sportback, e-tron S, and Q8 e-tron, model years 2018–2024, with factory Matrix LED or Digital Matrix headlights.

Most e-tron GE vehicles left the factory with everything TSR needs — the PR-QK1 front camera, factory navigation, and a TSR-capable Virtual Cockpit — but the feature itself sits dormant in the coding, exactly like the Matrix path.

Because of how the e-tron's headlight / camera controllers are bound to the vehicle CAN gateway, TSR on the e-tron GE is not app-driven for any model year. All model years 2018 through 2023 run through a guided remote session on a Windows PC + ENet cable at €300. You keep the cable plugged in throughout, we drive the flashing live, and you see every step. The end result on the car is identical to a factory-coded e-tron with TSR — speed limits, no-overtaking and warning signs appear live in the Virtual Cockpit and (when fitted) the head-up display.

Requires e-tron GE / e-tron S / Sportback with PR-QK1 front camera + Virtual Cockpit or Instrument Cluster Top + Navigation System. Not compatible with Q8 e-tron (2023+ rebadged successor — separate platform) or e-tron GT (different platform).

From the factory the e-tron GE powered tailgate only closes while the key fob button is held down and only within close range — awkward when you are already at the charger or walking back inside with grocery bags.

This activation converts the key fob and the interior tailgate switch to single-press close: one quick tap sends the full close command and the tailgate closes on its own from any sensible remote distance. Opening (long-press) stays untouched.

Applies to e-tron GE and e-tron S, SUV and Sportback bodies, model years 2018–2021 with factory powered tailgate. Not offered on the 2023+ Q8 e-tron rebadged successor — that is a separate model. Price: €65, one-time, permanent.

Almost every e-tron GE with the Audi Sound System (PR-9VD, 10 speakers with a subwoofer) shows only Bass and Treble in the MMI Sound menu. The subwoofer plays at a fixed level and cannot be balanced against the main bass — a real quality-of-life problem in an EV cabin where every fluctuation in low-end response is audible.

RetroLab Pro unlocks a dedicated Subwoofer slider next to Bass in MMI Sound. You can dial the low end so it sits composed at motorway cruise or cinematic on longer touring drives without re-EQing every trip. Requires e-tron GE with MIB3 + PR-9VD, model years 2021–2023. Not compatible with the Bang & Olufsen 3D system. Price: €50, one-time, permanent.

Audi's Functions on Demand (FoD) system sells software unlocks for hardware already fitted in your e-tron — Matrix LED headlights, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Traffic Sign Recognition, DAB radio and Park Assist — through the myAudi app or Audi Connect Store. But FoD only works where Audi activates it for your market and VIN. If your e-tron was imported, if your country doesn't support FoD, or if your factory configuration was locked out of it, the myAudi app simply shows nothing — no error, no purchase path.

This activation bypasses that. We unlock all eligible FoD features for your VIN in a single guided remote session at the ECU level — permanently, no subscription, no dependency on the myAudi app.

What we unlock (subject to VIN eligibility):

• Matrix LED Headlights — adaptive high-beam masking, dynamic cornering light, motorway beam
• Smartphone Interface — Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wired; wireless on MMI software 2711+)
• Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) — live speed limits and warning signs in the Virtual Cockpit
• DAB / DAB+ Digital Radio — enables the DAB tuner already present in the head unit
• Park Assist / Park Assist Plus — semi-autonomous parking, parallel and perpendicular

All activations are one-time, permanent, VIN-locked. Confirmation always happens before payment.

4. Activation — Matrix: PR-8G4 app (2018–2023) or remote (2024); PR-8G5 and no-8G4/8G5 via remote (2018–2023); no 8G4/8G5 + 2024 = not supported. TSR runs via a guided remote session. All other activations run through the RetroLab Pro app (Windows or iOS) with an ENet cable.
