Audi Traffic Sign
Recognition Activation

Your Audi already has the front camera and Virtual Cockpit hardware for Traffic Sign Recognition. Audi never switched it on. RetroLab Pro activates it permanently — speed limits, no-overtaking signs and warning signs live in your Virtual Cockpit, exactly as Audi designed.
Most 2016–2020 models activate in under 25 minutes from home via the app.

Audi Virtual Cockpit with traffic sign recognition showing live speed limit

What Gets Unlocked

Live Speed Limits in Virtual Cockpit

The current speed limit appears in real time in your Virtual Cockpit or DIS cluster — exactly as Audi designed for factory-coded vehicles with TSR active.

No-Overtaking & Warning Signs

No-overtaking zones, end-of-restriction signs and common warning signs are displayed as they are read — not just speed limits.

Head-Up Display & Speed Alert

On Audis with a head-up display, signs are mirrored onto the windscreen. An optional speed-alert chime in MMI settings can warn when the limit is exceeded.

How It Works

01
Submit Your VIN

We look up your VIN and confirm the exact hardware fitted — front camera (PR-QK1), cluster type (PR-9S7 / 9S8 / 9S9) and model year. If your car is compatible, we send you a payment link. Nothing is charged before that confirmation.

02
Pay, Then Activate

After payment, plug the ENet cable into your OBD port (driver-side footwell) and open RetroLab Pro. For app-path models, you tap Activate and the app writes the OEM TSR configuration directly. For remote sessions, our team runs the activation live while you watch — Windows PC and ENet cable required.

03
TSR Live — Permanently

Drive normally and speed limits, no-overtaking signs and warning signs appear in your Virtual Cockpit. The licence is permanent and VIN-locked. If a dealer software update ever resets it, just rerun the app — reactivation is always free. Remote session reactivations are free too.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly does Traffic Sign Recognition show in my Audi?
Once activated, TSR reads road signs using your front camera (PR-QK1) and cross-references them with the navigation map. Recognised signs appear live in your Virtual Cockpit or DIS cluster — typically in the speed display area. Speed limits, no-overtaking signs, end-of-restriction signs and common warning signs are all shown. If your Audi has a head-up display, signs are also mirrored onto the windscreen.
Does TSR work with UK and European road signs?
Yes. Traffic Sign Recognition reads local road signs wherever you drive. UK speed limit signs, German Autobahn restrictions, French zone-30 signs, Italian, Spanish, Dutch and other EU sign formats are all fully supported. The system is camera-based and navigation-aided for low false-positive rates.
Why does the 2021+ A6, A7 or A8 cost more than the 2020?
The 2021 update for A6, A7 and A8 C8/D5 introduced an updated gateway architecture that prevents the standard app toolchain from reaching the TSR configuration target. The only reliable path is a direct ENet remote session — which is what the €300 guided session provides. The TSR result after a remote session is visually and functionally identical to an app activation.
What hardware do I need for TSR activation?
An ENet cable (OBD-to-Ethernet adapter, around €20–30 on Amazon), plus either a Windows PC with a LAN port, or an iPhone 13/14 with a Lightning-to-LAN adapter, or an iPhone 15/16/17 with a USB-C-to-LAN adapter. For remote sessions you need a Windows PC only. No VCDS, no OBDeleven.
Is the TSR activation permanent?
Yes. The licence is permanent and VIN-locked — one-time payment, no expiry, no subscription. TSR is activated at the ECU configuration level, not as a temporary flag. Certain dealer software updates (such as an SVM run) or a full module reset can clear it, though a routine service visit won't. If that happens, simply rerun the RetroLab Pro app and activate again at no extra charge. Remote session reactivations are always free — lifetime service for your VIN.
Can OBDeleven or VCDS activate TSR?
Partially — some older models allow a single long-coding flag change that turns on a basic TSR display, but this approach frequently results in dashboard warning lights, incomplete feature behaviour, or resets after the next dealer visit. RetroLab Pro performs a full OEM activation that writes the correct configuration into each relevant ECU, producing stable, permanent results identical to factory coding.
My EU-spec Audi — why does it not have TSR active from the factory?
Even EU-spec MLBevo Audis frequently leave the factory with TSR dormant. Whether TSR is active depends on the market variant, the ordered PR-code package, and sometimes simply the dealer the car was ordered through. The hardware (front camera PR-QK1, supported cluster) is present on most trims — the activation simply was not part of the base configuration.
Does TSR work on US and Canadian Audi models?
Yes. NAR-spec (North American Region) Audi vehicles in the USA and Canada are fully supported. The same models, activation methods and procedures apply as in the UK and Europe. US and Canadian road signs — mph speed limits, STOP signs, no-passing zones — are all recognised correctly by the OEM camera system.
How long does TSR activation take?
App-based activations (most 2016–2020 models) typically take 15–25 minutes from the moment you connect the ENet cable. Remote sessions for 2021–2023 models are scheduled and typically last 30–45 minutes with you present throughout.
