Audi MIB3 Hidden Features You Can Unlock

MIB3 is the third-generation Modular Infotainment Platform used in Audi vehicles. It replaced the older MIB2 system and brought a completely new architecture with a faster processor, higher-resolution displays, and an updated software platform.

Vehicles with MIB3 include:

• Audi A5 F5 facelift (2020+)
• Audi A6 C8 (2018+)
• Audi A7 C8 (2018+)
• Audi Q5 FY facelift (2020+)

The system handles navigation, media, phone connectivity, vehicle settings, and integration with the instrument cluster (Virtual Cockpit). But like most modern infotainment systems, not everything it can do is enabled by default.

This is by far the most requested MIB3 unlock: the hidden Subwoofer slider in the Sound settings.

What it is: Audi vehicles with the Audi Sound System (10-speaker, PR code 9VD) have a physical subwoofer, but the MIB3 software does not expose a dedicated control for it. The standard Sound menu only shows Treble and Bass. The Subwoofer slider exists in the software but is not enabled.

What unlocking it does: Adds a dedicated Subwoofer level control in the MMI Sound settings, alongside Treble and Bass. This lets you independently adjust the bass output of the subwoofer — particularly useful if you find the default bass level too heavy or too light.

How to unlock it: RetroLab Pro can activate the Subwoofer Menu through a guided procedure. It requires a vehicle with the 10-speaker Audi Sound System (PR-9VD) and MIB3 navigation. The activation costs €50 and is permanent.

This is a perfect example of a feature that is already built into the system — it just needs to be switched on.

The Green Menu (also called the Engineering or Developer Menu) is a hidden diagnostic interface built into every MIB3 unit. It provides access to:

• System information (software version, hardware revision)
• Display diagnostics
• Touch screen calibration
• Network status
• Module communication logs

Important note: The Green Menu is a read-only diagnostic tool. It does not let you change settings, enable features, or modify coding values. It is useful for checking system status and troubleshooting, but it is not a feature activation tool.

Access methods vary and are not officially supported by Audi. Some users access it through specific button combinations or adaptation channel changes. However, making changes through the Green Menu is not recommended — it is a diagnostic interface, not a user-facing feature.

Many MIB3-equipped Audis have the hardware for Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) — a front-facing camera that detects speed limit signs, no-passing zones, and other traffic signs. The detected signs are then displayed in the instrument cluster or Virtual Cockpit.

On some vehicles, TSR hardware is present but the feature is not enabled in the software. This is common on:

• Vehicles delivered to markets where TSR was not standard
• Vehicles where TSR was an option that was not ordered

If your vehicle has the compatible front camera module, TSR can be fully activated. This is not a simple coding change — it requires a proper activation procedure that configures the camera, links it to the cluster, and enables the data pipeline. Not every hidden MIB3 feature requires a full activation — some can be changed with simple coding tools. But the features that matter most often require more than a parameter toggle:
