Unlock the Hidden Subwoofer Menu on Audi MIB3

The Audi Sound System (PR-9VD) includes a 10-speaker configuration with a dedicated subwoofer. However, on MIB3 infotainment systems, the MMI Sound settings only display two adjustment sliders by default:

• Treble — Controls high-frequency output
• Bass — Controls low-frequency output

What most owners don't know is that the MMI software includes a third slider — Subwoofer — that provides dedicated control over the subwoofer level independently from the Bass slider. This hidden control is present in the software but not enabled by default.

After activation, your Sound settings will display all three sliders: Treble, Bass, and Subwoofer. This allows precise fine-tuning of the low-end output without affecting the overall bass balance of the other speakers.

The Audi Sound System (PR-9VD) is the standard sound system on many Audi models. It is positioned below the optional Bang & Olufsen and Bose sound systems in the lineup.

The Subwoofer slider is part of the MMI software on MIB3 systems, but Audi chose not to enable it by default on the standard Sound System. It is likely reserved for the higher-tier audio packages or simply not activated in the default configuration. Regardless of the reason, the control exists and can be safely enabled.

To unlock the Subwoofer menu, your Audi needs:

• MIB3 Navigation System — This is the third-generation modular infotainment platform (model years 2020+ for A4/A5, 2021+ for other models)
• Audi Sound System (PR-9VD) — The standard 10-speaker system. Vehicles with Bang & Olufsen or Bose may already have different audio controls.
