Activates the door-handle area lights to illuminate the ground beside the vehicle when reversing or maneuvering at low speed - turning them into a wide short-range road light.

Can RetroLab Pro enable Matrix headlights on US Audi models?
Yes. RetroLab Pro activates factory Matrix LED headlights on all supported US/NAR-spec Audi models — A4, A5, A6, RS6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7, Q8, e-tron GE, and e-tron GT. The hardware is already physically present in your vehicle. We re-enable the adaptive lighting via a VIN-specific OEM workflow, with no physical modifications to the car.
How much does Audi Matrix headlight activation cost in the US?
Standard activation costs €200 (one-time, permanent, VIN-locked). Model years 2024+ with Audi security protection are €300 and require a guided remote session (remote session fee included). Blue Laser and RS Animation headlight sequences are a flat €50 each when activated together with Matrix. Is it legal to unlock Matrix headlights in the US?
Matrix LED headlights are fully legal in the US and Canada. NHTSA updated FMVSS 108 (effective February 2022) to allow segmented adaptive high beam, and Transport Canada's CMVSS 108 mirrors US standards closely. Canadian-spec Audis carry the same factory Matrix hardware as US models — the activation is identical.

Does RetroLab Pro support 2024 and 2025 Audi models?
Yes — 2024+ Matrix activation is now available via the RetroLab Pro app for A6 C8 (2024–2025), A7 C8 (2024–2025), A8 D6 (2024–2026), Q7 4M (2024–2026), Q8 4M (2024–2026), Q8 e-tron (2024–2026), e-tron GE (2024–2026), and e-tron GT (2024–2026). These models require SFD to be unlocked on one unit before running the activation — SFD opens a 90-minute window using a third-party diagnostic tool. If you cannot unlock SFD yourself, a guided remote session is available at €300 total. A4 B9, A5 F5, and Q5 FY 2024+ are not supported.

What hardware do I need for the activation?
App-based activation (model years 2018–2023, and 2024+ with SFD unlocked): a Windows PC or an iPhone (13/14 with Lightning-to-LAN adapter, or iPhone 15/16/17 with USB-C-to-LAN adapter), an ENet cable, and your vehicle parked with the ignition on. Remote session (2024+ without SFD access): a Windows PC is required — iPhones are not supported for remote sessions. You still need the ENet cable and your vehicle with the ignition on. The ENet cable is commonly sold as a "BMW ENet cable" — it's a standard DoIP diagnostic cable compatible with all Audi MLBevo platforms.
Do I need a coding tool like OBDeleven to activate Matrix headlights?
No — neither VCDS nor OBDeleven coding can activate Matrix headlights on US Audi models. VCDS coding and OBDeleven can adjust a wide range of settings, but enabling Matrix headlights on a NAR-spec Audi is not a coding flag — it requires a full OEM activation sequence that rewrites the headlight module at a deeper level than any coding tool can reach. Attempting to enable Matrix via VCDS coding on a US-spec Audi will either have no effect or produce fault codes. RetroLab Pro uses the same OEM activation workflow a factory diagnostic system would use — the only approach that actually works.
Can VCDS coding unlock Audi Matrix headlights on a US car?
No. VCDS coding is very capable for Audi parameter changes, but it cannot perform the Matrix headlight activation on US/NAR-spec vehicles. The Matrix system on North American Audis requires a complete OEM firmware-level activation — not a coding entry. This is why VCDS and similar tools are consistently reported as failing for Matrix on US cars. RetroLab Pro performs the correct OEM activation sequence, which is why it works where coding tools don't.
Can I activate RS6 Matrix headlights in the US?
Yes. The RS6 Avant C8 comes with factory Matrix LED + Blue Laser headlights from the factory. On US-spec models, both the adaptive Matrix function and the Blue Laser high beam are software-locked. RetroLab Pro activates both in the same order — Matrix + Blue Laser for €250, or Matrix only for €200. Model years 2018–2025 are supported. 2024–2025 via app (SFD unlock required) or remote session (€300 total). Note: the orange side marker is automatically disabled as part of the Blue Laser activation.

How do I unlock Matrix headlights on a US Audi A8 or S8?
The A8 D5 and S8 have the most complex Matrix setup in the lineup — Matrix HD LED on all years, Digital Matrix on facelift models (2022+), and Laser on pre-facelift variants (2018–2021). All three configurations are fully supported. RetroLab Pro activates whichever system your A8 has after VIN verification confirms the headlight generation. Model years 2018–2026, with 2024+ via app (SFD required) or remote session.

How long does the activation take?
App-based activation (most model years 2018–2023) typically takes 10–20 minutes from the moment you connect the ENet cable. Remote-session activations for 2024+ SFD2-protected vehicles are scheduled and typically last around 1 hour.
Is the Matrix headlight activation permanent?
Yes. The licence is permanent and VIN-locked — one-time payment, no expiry. The coding persists through normal ignition cycles and battery replacements. Note: certain dealer software updates (such as an SVM run) or a full module reset can clear it, though a routine service visit won't. Since it's a lifetime VIN-based activation, simply rerun the RetroLab Pro app as many times as needed at no extra cost. Remote session reactivations are always free.
