Audi A4 B9 — Every OEM Activation You Can Unlock

US and Canadian A4 B9 vehicles ship with the Matrix LED hardware physically installed but software-restricted — a legacy of NHTSA lighting regulations that historically did not permit segmented adaptive high beam. The Matrix segments and adaptive controller are already inside the headlight; only the software gate is closed.

RetroLab Pro re-enables Matrix segment control on the headlight controller and restores the adaptive lighting behaviour Audi originally engineered:

• Per-segment LED masking of oncoming and preceding vehicles
• Dynamic light distribution based on speed, steering angle and navigation data
• Motorway mode for extended range
• Cornering mode at intersections

Applies to A4, S4 and RS4 B9 / B9.5 — Sedan and Avant, model years 2020–2023 with factory Matrix hardware. Model year 2024+ vehicles with SFD2 protection are also supported for an additional €100 via a guided remote session. Price: €200, one-time, permanent, VIN-verified through the RetroLab Pro app.

A large share of A4 B9 vehicles were built with the front camera hardware (PR-QK1) needed for Traffic Sign Recognition, but only some trims received the software activation. If you see the camera behind the rear-view mirror but no speed-limit indication in the Virtual Cockpit or Instrument Cluster Top, you are exactly the target for this activation.

RetroLab Pro activates OEM TSR end-to-end: it configures the front camera, links it to the cluster/Virtual Cockpit, and enables the navigation-fused sign display so speed limits, no-overtaking signs and end-of-restriction signs are picked up from the road and rendered in your cockpit exactly like a factory-optioned car.

Requires A4 B9 with PR-QK1 front camera + Virtual Cockpit or Instrument Cluster Top + Navigation System. Available on both EU and NAR-spec vehicles, model years 2016–2023. Price: €75, one-time, permanent.

The same PR-QK1 front camera that reads speed limits for TSR is also already watching the lane markings on every A4 B9 — Audi just never wired that data to the steering column on most trims. This activation switches it on: the car applies gentle corrective steering when you drift out of your lane without indicating, plus a visual warning in the cluster / Virtual Cockpit.

Audi provides a dedicated stalk button from factory to toggle Lane Assist on and off. If that button is retrofitted, we code it in at no extra charge. If it is not, the RetroLab Pro app includes a free 1-click ON/OFF toggle — no additional cost.

Requires A4 B9 / B9.5 with PR-QK1 front camera, model years 2016–2023. Price: €50, one-time, permanent, VIN-verified.

From the factory the powered tailgate on the A4 Avant only closes while the key fob button is held down and only within close range — awkward when you are already walking away with your hands full.

This activation switches the key fob and the interior tailgate switch to true one-press close: a single tap sends the full close command, and the tailgate closes on its own from any sensible remote distance. Opening behaviour (long-press) stays unchanged.

Applies to A4 B9 Avant, S4 Avant and RS4 Avant, model years 2016–2020 with the factory electric tailgate. Not offered on A4 Sedan/Saloon (no powered tailgate hardware) or 2021+ facelift model years — the module firmware in the facelift is different. Price: €65, one-time, permanent.

Three more OEM activations round out the A4 B9 platform:

• Subwoofer Menu (MIB3) — Facelift A4 B9.5 (2020+) trims with the Audi Sound System (PR-9VD) expose only Bass and Treble in the MMI Sound menu. This activation unlocks a dedicated Subwoofer slider next to Bass so you can dial the low end independently. Requires MIB3 + PR-9VD, not compatible with Bang & Olufsen 3D. €50.
• Dynamic S/RS Taillight Animation — Activates OEM S / RS-style dynamic lock/unlock light animation on A4 B9 vehicles with PR-8VM LED taillights. EU, ROW and NAR all supported, model years 2020–2023. €100.
• QQ2 Entry Color Customization — On vehicles equipped with factory multicolor ambient lighting (PR-QQ2), this activation lets you change the entry/exit ambient light colour from the default white to blue, red or green. €35.

All three are one-time, permanent and VIN-verified through the RetroLab Pro app.

A4 B9 Facelift trims with Matrix LED headlights (option code PR-8IY) ship with a standard startup / shutdown sequence — or on some cars, nothing at all. This activation writes the full RS4 Matrix startup and shutdown sequence directly into the headlight controller.

The animation is exactly the pattern Audi runs from factory on RS4 cars — segment-by-segment sweep across both front lamps on unlock, mirror-image goodbye on lock. On A4 B9 Facelift cars delivered without any headlight animation, this activation adds the RS4 sequence directly (not just an upgrade — a from-scratch enable).

Requires Audi A4 B9 Facelift with factory Matrix LED (PR-8IY) — model years 2020–2023. Applies to A4, S4 and RS4, Sedan and Avant. Not compatible with pre-facelift A4 B9 or non-Matrix trims. Price: €150, one-time, permanent, VIN-verified.
