Audi A8 D5 — Every OEM Activation You Can Unlock

The A8 D5 flagship was engineered with segmented HD Matrix LED headlights — and, on Laser-equipped trims, a Laser unit that engages at motorway speeds. On US and Canadian NAR-spec cars, this premium lighting hardware is physically installed but software-restricted. Historically, NHTSA rules did not allow segmented adaptive high beam, so Audi shipped the A8 with the function disabled even though every component was in place.

RetroLab Pro re-enables Matrix segment control and restores the adaptive lighting behaviour the A8 was originally designed to deliver:

• Per-segment LED masking of oncoming and preceding vehicles
• Dynamic light distribution based on speed, steering angle and navigation data
• Motorway mode and cornering mode
• Laser high beam engagement at motorway speeds (Laser-equipped A8 / S8)

This activation runs through the RetroLab Pro app (Windows or iOS) with an ENet cable — no remote session needed for 2018–2023 model years. Model year 2024+ vehicles with SFD2 protection are supported for an additional €100 via a guided remote session. Price: €200, one-time, permanent, VIN-verified.

From the factory, the A8 D5 powered trunk only closes while the key fob button is held down — and only within close range. Awkward when you are walking away from the car with your hands full.

This activation switches the key fob and the interior dashboard tailgate switch to true one-press close: a single tap sends the full close command, and the trunk closes on its own from any sensible remote distance. The opening behaviour (long-press) stays unchanged.

Applies to A8 D5 and S8 model years 2018–2020 with the factory powered trunk option. Not offered on A8 D5 Facelift (2021+) — the module firmware in the facelift is different. Price: €65, one-time, permanent, VIN-verified.

Early A8 D5 vehicles (2018, 2019, 2020), including the A8 L and S8, shipped with the MHI2P infotainment head unit. The hardware fully supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but on many trims neither is activated from the factory — the "Phone Apps" menu item is simply absent.

RetroLab Pro activates both CarPlay and Android Auto natively — no firmware patches, no remote desktop sessions, no third-party software layer:

• Apple CarPlay — €100. Wired works immediately. Wireless CarPlay works too if your MHI2P software is version 2711 or newer.
• Android Auto — €100. Wired USB connection. Full integration with the MMI display.

Applies to A8 D5, A8 L and S8 with MHI2P infotainment (2018–2020). A8 D5 Facelift (2021+) uses MIB3 and typically ships with both already enabled from factory — check for a "Phone Apps" tile before ordering.

On A8 D5 Facelift trims with the Audi Sound System (option code PR-9VD), the factory MMI Sound menu only exposes Bass and Treble. In a flagship cabin engineered for silence, every fluctuation in subwoofer output is obvious — but there is no slider to balance it against the main bass.

RetroLab Pro unlocks a dedicated Subwoofer slider next to Bass in MMI Sound. You can dial the low end to sit composed at motorway cruise or cinematic on longer touring drives without re-EQing every trip. Requires A8 D5 Facelift (2021–2023) + MIB3 + PR-9VD.
