What You Get
Audi Q8, SQ8 and RSQ8 4M vehicles delivered to the United States and Canada arrive with either the Matrix HD LED headlight assembly (2018–2024) or the Matrix and Laser headlight combination (2025–2026) already installed — yet the adaptive high beam functionality is software-restricted at delivery across all model years. This OEM activation re-enables Matrix segment control on the headlight controller and restores the adaptive lighting behaviour the hardware was engineered for. Model years 2018–2023 activate via the RetroLab Pro app. Model years 2024–2026 are performed remotely over a guided ENet session on a Windows PC. Equally supported across Q8, SQ8 and RSQ8 variants on the 4M platform.
How It Changes Behavior
From factoryon a stock US-spec Q8, SQ8 or RSQ8, the Matrix HD or Laser hardware is physically present but operates in a fixed full-beam mode — no per-segment masking, no adaptive cornering, no dynamic high-beam range.
After activationthe headlight controller takes back individual control of each Matrix LED segment, masking other road users in real time and extending the adaptive high beam at speed — the way the Q8's premium lighting hardware was designed to behave.

Why Matrix Headlights Are Restricted on US and Canadian Vehicles
Many Audi vehicles delivered to the United States and Canada include factory Matrix LED hardware, but the advanced adaptive lighting functionality is limited at the software level due to regional lighting regulations. Until recently, NHTSA rules did not allow segmented adaptive high beam, so Audi shipped the cars with the feature disabled even though the hardware was present. This activation unlocks the Matrix headlights and allows the adaptive lighting system to operate closer to its intended design — at the discretion of the vehicle owner.
Why the App, Not a Remote Session?
Most providers offering this activation perform it via a remote session — a technician connects to your PC over the internet and runs the process manually. RetroLab Pro does it differently. For 2018–2023 model years the activation runs entirely through the RetroLab Pro app, on your own machine, with no one connecting to your computer.

Does this work on the SQ8 and RSQ8 as well?
Yes — the Q8, SQ8 and RSQ8 share the same headlight architecture on the 4M platform. All three variants are fully supported across model years 2018–2026. The activation process and result are identical regardless of trim.
What headlights did my Q8 come with?
Q8, SQ8 and RSQ8 built between 2018 and 2024 ship with Matrix HD LED headlights as standard. Vehicles built from 2025 onwards ship with either Matrix LED or Laser LED headlights. Select your model year in the picker above to see your configuration.
Can I get the RS Animation?
Yes — the RS Animation (+€50) is available as an optional add-on for Q8 and SQ8 on Matrix HD LED models (2018–2024). RSQ8 variants already have the RS animation active from the factory.
My 2025 or 2026 Q8 has Laser headlights — is that supported?
Yes. From model year 2025, the Q8 platform moved to Matrix LED and Laser LED headlights. The activation supports both. If your vehicle has Laser headlights, the Blue Laser Light add-on (+€50) is also available.
Why do 2024, 2025 and 2026 models require a remote session?
Audi updated the security architecture on 2024+ vehicles with SFD2 protection, which prevents direct app-side access to the headlight module. Our team performs the activation remotely over a guided ENet session on your Windows PC. The result is identical to earlier model years.
Which model years are supported?
All Q8, SQ8 and RSQ8 4M from 2018 through 2026. Model years 2018–2023 activate via the RetroLab Pro app (€200). Model years 2024–2026 require a guided remote session on a Windows PC (€300).
Will the activation survive a software update or dealer visit?
Yes. The licence is permanent and VIN-locked — one-time payment, no expiry. Certain dealer software updates (such as an SVM run) or a full module reset can clear it, though a routine service visit won't. Rerun the RetroLab Pro app at no extra charge. Remote session reactivations are always free — lifetime service for your VIN.
Is activating Matrix headlights legal in the United States?
Audi restricted Matrix at the software level to comply with older NHTSA regulations. The hardware is DOT-compliant and factory-installed. The decision to use adaptive high-beam on public roads is at the discretion of the vehicle owner.
Does this work on a Canadian-spec Audi?
Yes. Canadian-spec Audi vehicles are delivered with the same factory Matrix LED hardware as US-spec models — the adaptive beam function is software-restricted at the factory for the same North American regulatory reasons. RetroLab Pro supports NAR-spec (North American Region) vehicles, which covers both US and Canadian market delivery. The activation process, pricing, and hardware requirements are identical.
