Built-in ActivationGrand-tourer performance, US-restricted headlights — this activation lets your e-tron GT's Matrix & Laser hardware behave the way Audi designed it. From €200.
Audi e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT vehicles delivered to the United States come with Matrix LED headlights — and on Laser-equipped trims, the Laser projector module — factory-fitted but software-restricted before delivery. This OEM activation re-enables Matrix segment control at the headlight controller level, restoring the adaptive lighting behaviour the e-tron GT was engineered to deliver.
2021–2023 models activate through the RetroLab Pro app (€200). 2024–2025 models require a guided remote session on a Windows PC (€300) due to Audi's updated security architecture on newer vehicles.
Laser-equipped trims also support two optional add-ons: Blue Laser Light (activates the factory laser projector for 500m+ high beam range) and RS Animation (enables the RS-style dynamic sweep on lock/unlock).
From factoryon a stock US-spec e-tron GT, the Matrix LEDs and Laser unit are physically present but constrained to a fixed full-beam mode. No segment masking, no adaptive cornering, no Laser activation at speed.
After activationthe headlight controller takes back individual control of each Matrix LED segment and engages the Laser at motorway speeds, masking other road users in real time and extending the high-beam range the way the e-tron GT's premium lighting hardware was designed to operate.
The following additional lighting options can be enabled in the same session if desired.
Audi vehicles delivered to the United States and Canada include factory Matrix LED hardware, but the advanced adaptive lighting functionality is limited at the software level due to regional lighting regulations. Until recently, NHTSA rules did not allow segmented adaptive high beam, so Audi shipped the cars with the feature disabled even though the hardware was present. This activation unlocks the Matrix headlights and allows the adaptive lighting system to operate closer to its intended design — at the discretion of the vehicle owner.
Most providers offering this activation perform it via a remote session — a technician connects to your PC over the internet and runs the process manually. RetroLab Pro does it differently. For 2018–2023 model years the activation runs entirely through the RetroLab Pro app, on your own machine, with no one connecting to your computer.
e-tron GT, RS e-tron GT — FW (2021–2025) US-spec Sportback with Matrix LED (and optional Laser) hardware
Matrix LED uses multiple individually-controlled segments to adapt the high beam around oncoming traffic. Laser headlights include all of that, plus a Laser projector module that extends high beam range to 500m+ at motorway speeds. Check your window sticker or VIN to confirm which your car has.
Laser headlights have a distinctive blue-tinted projector element visible in the headlight housing. You can also check your window sticker or order confirmation for headlight PR-codes. If you're unsure, send us your VIN and we'll confirm before any payment.
Audi updated the vehicle security architecture on 2024+ e-tron GT models, which prevents direct app-side access to the headlight controller. Our team performs the activation via a guided ENet remote session on your Windows PC. The result is identical to earlier model years — and remote session reactivations are always free.
Blue Laser Light activates the factory laser projector module for ultra-long-range high beam illumination (500m+). The hardware is physically installed in Laser-equipped cars — it's just software-disabled at US delivery. This is an optional +€50 add-on available only if your car has Laser headlights.
RS Animation activates the RS-style dynamic sweep sequence on lock and unlock — both headlights and taillights cycle through the RS welcome/goodbye animation. This is an optional +€50 add-on available on Laser-equipped e-tron GT trims.
Yes. The licence is permanent and VIN-locked — one-time payment, no expiry. Certain dealer software updates (such as an SVM run) or a full module reset can clear it, though a routine service visit won't. Rerun the RetroLab Pro app at no extra charge. Remote session reactivations are always free — lifetime service for your VIN.
Audi restricted Matrix at the software level to comply with older NHTSA regulations. The hardware is DOT-compliant and factory-installed. The decision to use adaptive high-beam on public roads is at the discretion of the vehicle owner.
Yes. Canadian-spec Audi vehicles are delivered with the same factory Matrix LED hardware as US-spec models — the adaptive beam function is software-restricted at the factory for the same North American regulatory reasons. RetroLab Pro supports NAR-spec (North American Region) vehicles, which covers both US and Canadian market delivery. The activation process, pricing, and hardware requirements are identical.
