What You Get
Many Audi e-tron GE vehicles delivered to the United States and Canada — including the 2024 model year, now badged Q8 e-tron — come from the factory with the full Matrix LED hardware fitted into the Matrix LED headlight housings. Yet the adaptive high beam functionality is software-restricted before delivery, leaving the e-tron lighting the road like a regular LED system despite the premium hardware. This OEM activation re-enables Matrix segment control on the headlight controller and restores the adaptive lighting behaviour the e-tron was originally engineered to deliver.
The method and price depend on your exact headlight hardware and model year:
- PR-code 8G4 (Matrix LED), 2018–2023: activation runs directly through the RetroLab Pro app. €200.
- PR-code 8G4 (Matrix LED), 2024 (Q8 e-tron): via a guided remote session on a Windows PC + ENet cable. €300 (+€100 surcharge).
- PR-code 8G5 (Digital Matrix Headlights), 2018–2024: via a guided remote session on a Windows PC + ENet cable. €300.
- No PR-code 8G4 or 8G5, 2018–2023: via a guided remote session on a Windows PC + ENet cable. €300.
- No PR-code 8G4 or 8G5, 2024 (Q8 e-tron): not supported.
How It Changes Behavior
From factoryon a stock NAR e-tron GE / Q8 e-tron, the Matrix LEDs are physically present but constrained to a fixed full-beam mode. No segment masking, no adaptive cornering.
After activationthe headlight controller takes back individual control of each Matrix LED segment, masking other road users in real time and extending the high-beam range the way the e-tron's premium lighting hardware was designed to operate.

Why Matrix Headlights Are Restricted on US Vehicles
Many Audi vehicles delivered to the United States and Canada include factory Matrix LED hardware, but the advanced adaptive lighting functionality is limited at the software level due to regional lighting regulations. Until recently, NHTSA rules did not allow segmented adaptive high beam, so Audi shipped the cars with the feature disabled even though the hardware was present. This activation unlocks the Matrix headlights and allows the adaptive lighting system to operate closer to its intended design — at the discretion of the vehicle owner.

- Factory Matrix LED headlights (PR-code 8G4) or Digital Matrix Headlights (PR-code 8G5) installed
- Windows PC + ENet cable (required for remote-session vehicles; app-based for PR-code 8G4 vehicles, 2018–2023 only)
Compatibility Notes
- Not supported: e-tron GT (different platform — see separate e-tron GT Matrix activation)
- Not supported: e-tron GE / Q8 e-tron NAR-spec without factory Matrix LED hardware
- Not supported: non-North American vehicles (EU / RoW units already ship with Matrix enabled)
- Not supported: 2024 model year (Q8 e-tron) without PR-code 8G4 or 8G5
