Q8 e-tron vs e-tron GE — What Is the Difference?

The Audi Q8 e-tron is the same vehicle as the Audi e-tron GE — Audi simply renamed it. On November 8, 2022, Audi announced the rebadge:

  • Cars delivered before the rebadge: badged as "Audi e-tron"
  • Cars delivered from the 2023 model year onward: badged as "Audi Q8 e-tron" or "Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron"

The Matrix headlight hardware, PR codes, and activation process are identical across both names. If your car says "Q8 e-tron" on the back, this guide covers you.

Which Model Years Are Supported?

All 2022, 2023, and 2024 US-spec Audi Q8 e-tron and Q8 Sportback e-tron vehicles with factory Matrix LED headlights are supported.

The exact activation method and price depend on your headlight PR-code and model year:

  • PR-code 8G4, 2022–2023: app activation — €200 / ~$240 USD
  • PR-code 8G4, 2024: remote session (Audi SFD2 security) — €300 / ~$360 USD
  • PR-code 8G5 (Digital Matrix), 2022–2024: remote session — €300 / ~$360 USD
  • No 8G4 or 8G5, 2022–2023: remote session — €300 / ~$360 USD
  • No 8G4 or 8G5, 2024: not supported

Not sure which PR-code you have? Send us your VIN — we confirm before any payment.

What Gets Unlocked?

Activating Matrix headlights on the Q8 e-tron restores the full adaptive lighting system:

  • Adaptive High Beam Assist — segments mask oncoming drivers in real time while keeping the rest of the road fully lit
  • Cornering Light — lights the direction of a turn before the car rotates
  • Highway Mode — extended beam range at speed
  • Intersection Mode — wider spread at low-speed junctions
  • Dynamic Light Distribution — adapts continuously to speed, steering and road conditions

In an EV as quiet as the Q8 e-tron, having the sharpest possible headlights fully active makes a real difference on night drives.
