Audi A5 F5 Matrix & Laser Headlights USA — 2020, 2021, 2022 & 2023 Activation Guide

Matrix (and Laser) headlight activation is available on 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 US-spec Audi A5 F5 (Sportback, Coupé, Cabriolet), S5 F5, and RS5 F5.

The 2020 model year marks the B9.5 facelift for the US market — the first A5 generation to offer Matrix LED headlights as standard equipment on Technology Package and Prestige trims.

Required headlight hardware:

• PR-8G4 — standard Matrix LED (most Technology Package and Prestige trims)
• PR-8IZ — Matrix LED + factory Laser Light (top-spec S5 and RS5)

Matrix LED activation (all supported A5 F5 trims) restores the full OEM adaptive high-beam system:

• Adaptive High Beam Assist — individual LED segments mask oncoming drivers and cyclists in real time while keeping the rest of the road fully lit
• Cornering Light — illuminates the direction of a turn before the car rotates
• Highway Mode — extended beam range at motorway speeds
• Intersection Mode — wider spread at low-speed junctions
• Dynamic Light Distribution — continuous adaptation to speed, steering, and environment

Laser headlights (PR-8IZ — S5 and RS5 facelift, and some top-spec A5 Prestige) — the Laser activation includes the Laser high beam at motorway speeds. An optional add-on is also available:

• RS Laser Headlight Welcome Animation (+€150) — activates the OEM RS5 startup and shutdown light sweep on lock/unlock. Available exclusively on facelift A5/S5/RS5 with PR-8IZ Laser hardware.

All 2020–2023 A5 F5 activations run through the RetroLab Pro app — no dealer, no VCDS, no OBDeleven.

• iPhone 13/14 + Lightning-to-LAN adapter, or
• iPhone 15/16/17 + USB-C-to-LAN adapter

The A5 F5 is one of the most consistent Matrix activations across the F5 platform — the PR-code configuration (8G4 or 8IZ) is the only variable. The app handles both variants.
