Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) — known in Germany as Verkehrszeichenerkennung (VZE) — is one of the most frequently requested activations from UK and European Audi customers. What Does TSR Actually Do — and How Good Is It?

Traffic Sign Recognition reads road signs using the front camera (PR-QK1) and cross-references the data with the navigation map. The recognised signs appear in:

  • Virtual Cockpit / DIS cluster — in the speed display area or as a dedicated sign readout
  • Head-up display — when fitted, signs are mirrored onto the windscreen
  • MMI speed warning — optional alert when you exceed the detected limit

UK speed limit signs (red circles), German Autobahn restrictions, French zone-30 signs, Italian road signs and other EU formats are all supported. The recognition is camera-based and navigation-aided, which keeps false positives low compared to camera-only systems.

The result is visually and functionally identical to a factory-coded Audi with TSR. This is not a coding workaround — it is an OEM activation that writes the correct configuration into each control unit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does TSR need to be enabled every time I drive?
No. Once activated, TSR is permanently enabled in the vehicle configuration. There is no toggle required — it behaves exactly like a factory-coded Audi with TSR. You can toggle the speed warning alert in the MMI settings if desired, but the recognition itself runs automatically.
Will TSR survive a dealer software update?
Yes. TSR is activated at the ECU configuration level — not as a temporary coding override. The licence is permanent and VIN-locked. Certain dealer software updates (such as an SVM run) can clear it, though a routine service visit won't. If that happens, simply rerun the app at no extra charge. Remote session reactivations are always free — lifetime service for your VIN.
Does TSR work on US and Canadian Audi vehicles?
Yes. NAR-spec (North American Region) Audi vehicles are fully supported — USA and Canada included. The same models, activation methods and pricing apply as in the UK and Europe. US and Canadian road signs (mph speed limits, STOP signs, no-passing zones) are all recognised correctly by the OEM camera system.
Can I activate TSR if my Audi was imported from a non-EU country?
