Audi Q8 4M — Every OEM Activation You Can Unlock

US and Canadian Q8 4M vehicles ship with Matrix LED hardware — and on Laser-equipped trims, a Laser high beam unit — physically installed but software-restricted. RetroLab Pro re-enables Matrix segment control and — where Laser hardware is present — the Laser high beam that engages at motorway speeds:

• Per-segment LED masking of oncoming and preceding vehicles
• Dynamic light distribution based on speed, steering angle and navigation data
• Motorway mode for extended range
• Cornering mode at intersections
• Laser engagement at motorway speeds (Laser-equipped Q8 / SQ8 / RS Q8)

Applies to Q8, SQ8 and RS Q8 4M, model years 2020–2023 with factory Matrix (and optional Laser) hardware. Model year 2024+ with SFD2 protection is supported for an additional €100 via a guided remote session. Price: €200, one-time, permanent, VIN-verified.

A large share of Q8 4M vehicles ship with everything TSR needs — PR-QK1 front camera, factory navigation, and a TSR-capable Virtual Cockpit — but with the feature itself dormant. Activate it and speed limits + warning signs render live in the Virtual Cockpit (and the head-up display when fitted).

The Q8 4M follows the same C8-era app / remote split:

• Q8 4M model years 2018 / 2019 / 2020 — €100, via the RetroLab Pro app. No dealer, no remote — a guided app workflow with an ENet cable.
• Q8 4M Facelift model years 2021 / 2022 / 2023 — €300, guided remote session only. From MY2021 SFD2 protection requires a live Windows PC + ENet session — the end result on the Q8 is identical to the app path.

Requires Q8 4M with PR-QK1 front camera + Virtual Cockpit or Instrument Cluster Top + Navigation System. Applies to Q8, SQ8 and RS Q8. Not compatible with Q8 e-tron (that's a separate platform — see the e-tron GE post).

The Q8 4M was one of the first Audis to ship with the MHI2P head unit — and it applies to 2018, 2019 and 2020 model years including SQ8 and RS Q8. The hardware supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto natively, but many trims left the factory without either activated — the "Phone Apps" menu item is simply absent.

RetroLab Pro activates both natively — no patches, no remote desktop sessions:

• Apple CarPlay — €100. Wired works immediately. Wireless CarPlay works too if your MHI2P software is version 2711 or newer.
• Android Auto — €100. Wired USB, full MMI integration.

Applies to Q8 / SQ8 / RS Q8 with MHI2P infotainment (2018–2020). 2021+ facelift trims use MIB3 and typically ship with both already enabled from factory — check for a "Phone Apps" tile before ordering.

The Q8 4M powered tailgate is heavy and, from the factory, only closes while the key fob button is held down and only within close range. This activation converts the key fob and the interior dashboard switch to single-press close: one quick tap sends the full close command and the tailgate closes on its own from any sensible remote distance. Opening (long-press) stays untouched.

Applies to Q8, SQ8 and RS Q8 4M, model years 2018–2022 with the factory powered tailgate option. Not offered on 2023+ Q8 facelift trims. Price: €65, one-time, permanent.

MIB3-equipped Q8 4M trims with the Audi Sound System (PR-9VD, 10 speakers with a subwoofer) show only Bass and Treble in the MMI Sound menu. The subwoofer plays at a fixed level and cannot be balanced against the main bass — noticeable in the coupé-SUV cabin where the tailgate glass angle changes low-frequency behaviour.

RetroLab Pro unlocks a dedicated Subwoofer slider next to Bass in MMI Sound. Requires Q8 4M with MIB3 + PR-9VD — MIB3 is standard on 2021+ facelift trims. Not compatible with the Bang & Olufsen 3D system. Price: €50, one-time, permanent.

Q8 4M Facelift trims fitted with HD Matrix LED headlights (option code PR-8IT) can run the OEM RS Q8 HD Matrix startup / shutdown animation on unlock and lock — the exact segment-by-segment sequence Audi programs from factory on RS Q8. Some Facelift cars ship with a plain startup sequence, others with none at all; this activation writes the full RS Q8 pattern directly into the headlight controller.

Full OEM activation — permanent, dealer-safe, survives future software updates.

Requires Audi Q8 4M Facelift with factory HD Matrix LED (PR-8IT) — model years 2020–2023. Applies to Q8, SQ8 and RS Q8. Not compatible with Q8 4M pre-facelift or non-HD-Matrix trims, nor Q8 e-tron (separate platform). Price: €150, one-time, permanent, VIN-verified.
