Matrix LED headlights are Audi's most advanced lighting technology. Unlike standard LED headlights, Matrix LEDs use an array of individually controllable LED segments that can selectively illuminate or dim specific areas of the road. This enables features like:
- Adaptive high beam assistant — Keeps high beam on while automatically masking oncoming and preceding vehicles.
- Dynamic light distribution — Adjusts the beam pattern based on speed, steering angle and navigation data.
- Motorway mode — Extends beam range at higher speeds.
- Cornering mode — Widens the beam pattern when approaching intersections.
- Laser high beam (on Laser-equipped trims) — Engages at motorway speeds to extend high-beam range dramatically.
On European e-tron GT models, all of these functions are fully active from the factory. On US models, the adaptive and dynamic functions are disabled at the software level even though the Matrix hardware is physically installed.
