The Audi A4 B9.5 facelift delivered to Canada from the 2020 model year brought factory Matrix LED headlights to the A4 lineup. Canadian and US A4 models are the same NAR build — the hardware restriction and the activation process are identical across both markets.

Which A4 Model Years Are Supported in Canada?

Matrix headlight activation is available on 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 Canadian-spec Audi A4 B9 vehicles.

The B9.5 facelift introduced Matrix LED headlights as an available option for the North American market. Canadian and US A4 vehicles are built to the same NAR specification — the Matrix hardware is present in both markets on Prestige or Technology Package trim.

Required: factory Matrix LED headlights (PR-code 8G4). Check your window sticker or myAudi app — if "Matrix LED Headlights" is listed, the hardware is present.

Does my 2020 Canadian Audi A4 have Matrix headlights?
If your 2020 A4 B9.5 has Prestige trim or the Technology Package with Matrix LED listed on the window sticker or in myAudi, you have PR-code 8G4 and can activate for €200 / ~$240 USD. Pre-facelift 2019 A4 B9 models do not have Matrix hardware.
Does A4 Matrix activation require VCDS?
No. VCDS cannot perform the full OEM Matrix activation. RetroLab Pro writes the correct module data directly through the standard Audi diagnostic interface — the same way Audi does in production — via the RetroLab Pro app on iPhone or Windows PC with an ENet cable.
